On Tuesday 18th of February our year 8 students, our IGCSE Geography students, and our IB ESS students met a special guest: Mr. Wilbert Smeets, who works for se S.E.S.A. este, a company specialising in waste sorting and the transformation of the organic fraction of waste.
S.E.S.A. can extract electricity, thermal energy, organic compost, and drinking water from kitchen waste collected through selective waste collection. Since 2016, S.E.S.A. has also been able to produce biomethane, which is used to fuel the vehicles for waste collection and the entire company fleet.
Our students had the opportunity to experience this reality firsthand and to understand once again the importance of being responsible citizens and respectful of the environment in which we live.
A special thanks to Mr. Smeets for his availability and for the patience with which he answered the many questions he was asked.
